In spite of the fact that we have never been lucky to be the chosen ones at the "Finnish Winner" title shows, we still keep on going there at the beginning of December every year.
This time we had Happy and Grace with us to be shown there.
At Saturday, 03-rd of December, "Helsinki Winner 2011" show, the entry of English setters was 28, and the judge was Jose Haro Haro from Spain.
Happy was represented in veteran class and gained the result of "excellent" 1/2, CQ, BOBvet .
The judge did not even look at our Grace leaving her to the last place in the open class (from 5 bitches in open class entered).

Sunday, 04-th of December, "Finnish Winner 2011" show. It was a rainy day, but still with a little more luck for Grace.
Grace was recognized by the judge Hannele Jokisilta (Finland) with the result of open class "excellent" 2/7, CQ, best bitch 3-rd, res-CAC .
Happy got "excellent" with CQ in veteran class and afterwards was BOSvet .
Altogether there were 29 English setters entered to this day.

So, soon the year 2011 will be over and there will be no more dogshows for this year.

During the next year there will be several challenges abroad - we will try to be present in Austria in May and maybe even in Romania in October.
Who knows, we may be popping into Denmark also somewhere in the middle of the next year.

But still - her nose is dirty - she has been digging and there is some mud on the nose :-).

One does not need to travel to the faraway country to see some magnificent view - sometimes you only need to drive about 60 kilometres from home.
We went to hike along the wooden paths of the Kõnnu Suursoo (Kõnnu Bog) and it was really an amazingly beautiful scenery there.

It is already a kind of a tradition that we visit Aland every year in the end of September.
The autumn in Aland is always so beautiful, we always have such a good company there at our camping, and last but not the least: there is the International Dogshow with a good judge for our breed-type in Aland. So, it is worth visiting this place again and again!
This time we entered both Happy and Grace to the dogshow, but unfortunately had to leave Happy home, because Grace started her season just one week before the journey.
The entry of English setters was 12 and the judge was Nicola Ruigrok (Ireland).
Grace managed to get a very nice description from Nicola Ruigrok, she got "excellent" 1, best bitch 4, res-CACIB, res-CAC presented in the intermediate class for the last time.
Next time we will have to be in the open class already - I hope Grace's coat will grow nicely thick and long for this to be competing among other grown-up bitches in a more tense competition.
I did not make any photos at the dogshow, but here are some feelings from Aland from another point of view:

Just once in a while you feel like getting up at 5 o'clock in the morning and going to see what is happening at the bog in autumn.
So we did together with Anne-Stiina and visited the Viru bog during the sunrise hour.

Our Happy had to go through a surgery a week ago. Three tumors were removed from his skin.
I did not want to write it here earlier, because we did not know how it would heal.
But luckily all the wounds have been growing together fine and tomorrow we will go to remove the stitches.

We started towards Sweden in the evening of Wednesday, 17-th of August.
At Saturday we had the International dogshow in Eskilstuna with the entry of 7 English setters and the judge from Finland: Bo Skalin.
But the most important show for the title of "Swedish Winner 2011" was at Sunday in Norrköping with the entry of 8 English setters, judged by Mr. Gordon Williams (England).
In Eskilstuna, at Saturday, it was raining like hell: the showground was covered with water and mud - it was not so easy to keep the white dogs with long coat clean.
In spite of the hard weather conditions our little Grace was handled so well by Anne-Stiina.
Grace got "excellent", best bitch 2/2, res-CACIB, CAC.
At the next day in Norrköping the sun was already shining: it was better in many ways!
Grace's result was just wonderful: together with Anne-Stiina they ran for "excellent", best bitch 1/2, BOB, CACIB and the title of "Swedish Winner 2011".
What a nice result!
Later in the FCI VII group competition the judge was Mr. John Palmer (Australia). Grace was chosen to final 8 dogs (from total 16 entries), but unfortunately not a single representative of any setter-breed was chosen to final 4 places.
Yesterday late in the evening we arrived from Sweden spending the whole Monday, more than 10 hours, in the ferry of Baltic Scandinavian Lines company - a lousy and a dull day!
But the title of "Swedish Winner 2011" is worth all this effort! We are so very proud of our sweety Grace!

We made a trip to Druskininkai, Lithuania to take part in the dogshow weekend there.
Friday, 05-th of August - International Dogshow.
18 English setters were entered to the judge Mrs. Kate Crosbie (Ireland).
Some of the competitors did not show up to this show, but our Grace and Happy received very nice results.
Grace got: intermediate class "excellent" 1, best bitch 1, CAC, CACIB .
Happy was: veteran class "excellent" 1, best veteran, veteran winner .

At the next day, 06-th of August, there was the International Dogshow for the title "Baltic Winner 2011" .
The entry of English setters was the same, now the competitors were all present and the judge was Magdalena Swieton (Poland).
The judging went on in such a speed this time, that the ring steward forgot to give me the CAC-card for Grace and the Veteran Winner card for Happy, so I had to run to the information desk altogether 4 times to get our prizes there - what a mess!
And of course this judge did not like our breed-type so much - so all the glory went to the other competitors.
Grace got: intermediate class "excellent" 1, CAC .
Happy got: veteran class "excellent" 1, best veteran, title of "Baltic Veteran Winner 2011" .

In general it was a lovely trip in such a hot weather.
I am very-very thankful to Anne-Stiina who handled our dogs so well!

We can apply also for the LT Vet CH and Balt Vet CH title for Happy now.

This passed weekend was "filled" with dogshows and a very-very hot weather.
Besides, we were making the very first trip with our brand new motor-home.
In spite of these three facts mentioned, everything came out absolutely smoothly:
Our new motor-home is very cosy and modern. The weather at Sunday was not so hot any more. And last but not least: we got wondeful results from the dogshows during the weekend.

At Saturday there was a dogshow in Haapsalu. In spite of the fact that Wim Wellens (the Netherlands) is a specialist judge for several gundog breeds, there were only our Grace and Happy entered from all the setter breeds.
Happy made his comeback to the showrings now already in veteran-class, and received a nice description with the result BOBvet, best male and BOS, while our Grace was BOB this time.
As it really is quite weird to compete being the only setters at the show, and it also started to rain heavily, therefore we did not stay for the finals of the show and drove southwards to Latvia, Jaunmarupe.
Jaunmarupe is a lovely place in the suburb of Riga (we had not been there before). The show itself was a very nice one: plenty of green grass for running the dogs, quiet surroundings and a very friendly atmosphere with excellent choice of competent judges to look over the dogs.
The judge for English setters at Sunday was Mr. Rui Oliveira (Portugal). The entry of English setters was a little bit better than in Haapsalu - 5 entries.
Our Happy seems to be in a very good mood and condition. Mr. Oliveira liked him a lot, placing him as best male 1/2, best veteran, BOB, BIG2. Happy was also chosen as BIS3 veteran by the judge Mr. Zeev Trainin (Israel).
Grace was nicely placed as best bitch 1/3, BOS with CAC.
I am sad we did not take the camera with us (I thought that there will be a lot of photographers, but I was wrong) - so unfortunately no pictures this time!

Yesterday we got our Kilbi back. He was lost already for a week and at the moment when he was found, he was wandering around almost 700 meters from our home.
Great thanks to our neighbour Merly, who found him and cared about our tortoise.
But - the day before yesterday we could not resist and bought a new tortoise - so, we have now 2 tortoises living happily here.
Since yesterday our Kilbi got a new name - he is now called "The Globe-Trotter".
In spite of his adventure, he is feeling very well: at the moment he was put to the grass in the garden, he started to eat his favourites - the dandelion flowers.

On the 18-th of June we travelled to Finland to take part in the International Dogshow in Kotka at the next day.
There were 14 English setters entered to the well-known English judge Mr. Frank Kane.
The day was a very nice one - the most important thing was that it wasn't raining during the dogshow.
Our young sweetheart Grace got a very nice description from Mr. Frank Kane and was placed as follows:
intermediate class excellent 2/2, best bitch 4, res-CAC.
After the show we drove to Helsinki to say farewell to Grace and Anne-Stiina (they were going back to Estonia), as we started our trip towards north to see the Midnight Sun at the Nordkapp (North Cape) in Norway.

We are back from our journey now safe and sound. I will sort out the pictures from this beautiful breathtaking Lapland scenery as soon as I manage.

Now it is time to do the work (a little bit), and then at the end of July we will go to some dogshows again - so, watch out!!

This year seems to be full of very sad news:
When we were away from home, suddenly our tortoise Kilbi disappeared from our garden. We have been searching everywhere, but with no luck. I think we have lost him by now forever. Kilbi lived in our household for about 16 years.
I really miss you, Kilbi, whereever you are!

GB Sh CH Bournehouse Silver Dreamer "Jason" has left to the Rainbow Bridge.
Our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Mrs. Penny Williams and Mr. Gordon Williams (kennel Bournehouse) - we are feeling so-so sad!
Jason had everthing I adored, admired and loved in the English setter. He is the father of our Grace and this relationship is so very valuable.
Rest in Peace, dear Jason!

Remembering our dear Batman, but life has to go on...

Together with Ulvi, Smokie and Juuli and Grace we visited Riihimäki and Hyvinkää in Finland.
Of course we did not have the vacation there - we took part in the Kymen Setterit & Pointterit Ry clubshow.
The entry of English setters was just a great and nice amount - 37 dogs. The judge for us was Karen Sillince (UK).
The weather was nice, the atmosphere of the show very lovely and friendly.
The showground was just perfect for the setters to run (although the grass could have been little better mown, but this was not a disturbing issue).
Our Grace just moved and showed herself well -she won the intermediate class with CC with the very nice description. The competition in the best bitch ring was so strong, so we did not get any placement.

At the Irish Red Setters ring the competition was even more dense: altogether 57 Irish reds (the judge was Lynne Sketchley, UK).
But our travel companion Thendara Mastercard "Smokie" managed to receive the 3-rd place in junior class males and Vicary's Just You & Me "Juuli" won the junior class consisting of 13 lovely young bitches.
I am a bit sad we couldn't stay longer to get the final result for Juuli in the best bitch competition - it could have been interesting to know her placement, but our ferry was about to leave towards Tallinn again, so we had to hurry not to miss it.
We had such a good time in Finland!
And it was so nice to travel with you, Ulvi!
So, some day we have to make it once more - for sure!

Today morning I started my day as usual: I woke up at seven, took 2 big red bowls and 3 smaller white ones, went to fetch the dog-food from the next room - for each bowl as usual - to some of the bowls a little less, to some of the bowls a little more.
Five of the bowls at my arms I walked to the kitchen, then suddenly I realized, that I do not need this fifth big red bowl anymore, because I do not have the dog whom to feed from this bowl.
Yesterday evening was a disaster!
I knew that sooner or later it has to happen, but we are never ready to face it, aren't we!
We do not have our Batman, our little Pätu, anymore! Batman left beyond the Rainbow Bridge yesterday evening.
Yesterday afternoon was as usual: Batman was actively running in our back garden. He seemed to feel well and confident.
At noon we, together with Anne, fed him a slice of bread with cheese.
We could only assume that Batman has something wrong with his health. During the last week he had lost his appetite. We thought it is beacuse of our Annie's starting season - but now I know how wrong we were!
Dogs are unbelievebly patient and tolerant - if only they can speak. If they can talk about what bothers them.
At about eight o'clock in the evening Batman simply laid down on the living-room carpet and there he was lying.
At ten we drove towards the animal ambulance in Tallinn, the veterinarian thought it might be the internal bleeding of spleen.
When we got to the ambulance door, we already had lost our brown-eyed friend.

Nattaset Blue Batman lived a happy life for almost 10 years. On the 16-th of June this year he would turn 10.
I remember how much waited was this little boy with black eye-patches from the Nattaset kennel.
Thanks to Batman I met so many nice people with whom we have become friends.
Thanks to Batman we travelled along Europe winning the Best of Breed titles at many setter special shows here and there.

Batman was a big dog - especially from his soul! Everybody in our home-pack respected him - when Batman did not want to make fun, even the wildest teasers got calmed down.

We could say that at the best times Batman was the most winning male English setter in Europe at dogshows!

I was just thinking that I will trim our Batman to the show-shape and make some nice photos for his 10-th birthday party.
I am just too late to trim him!
Life just seems to be so short!

Alustasin täna oma päeva tavapäraselt: tõusin kell seitse, võtsin 2 suurt punast ja 3 väiksemat valget söögikaussi ning läksin koeratoidu tünnist toitu võtma - igasse kaussi jaopärast- mõnda kaussi vähem, teise rohkem krõbisevat graanulit.
Viis kaussi kaenla all teise tuppa kõndides avastasin ma äkitselt, et mul ei ole enam tarvis viiendat suurt punast söögikaussi, sest pole enam koera, kellele sinna toitu panna.
Eilne õhtu oli õudukas!
Ma teadsin, et varem või hiljem see juhtub, aga et nii ootamatult ja äkki!
Meil ei ole enam Batman'i, minu väikest Pätut. Batman lahkus eile õhtul vikerkaaresilla taha.
Veel lõunaajal kalpsas ta rõõmsalt mööda tagaõue ringi, söötsime talle Annega sulatatudjuustuga sepikut, ta näis rahulolev ja rõõmus.
Et Batmanil tervisega midagi halvasti on, võis ainult aimata. Viimasel nädalal ta ei söönud eriti. Me küll arvasime, et see on tingitud Annie algavast jooksukast - aga nüüd tagantjärele tean, et me eksisime!
Koerad on nii uskumatult vastupidavad ja kannatlikud - kui vaid nad saaksid rääkida! Rääkida sellest, mis neid vaevab.
Eile õhtul kella kahksa paiku Batman lihtsalt heitis pikali meie elutoa vaibale ja seal ta lebas.
Kella kümne ajal sõitsime Tallinna loomade kiirabisse, arst kahtlustas põrna verejooksu.
Kui kiirabi ukse taha jõudsime, polnud enam minu väikest pruunisilmset Batmani.

Nattaset Blue Batman elas täisväärtulikku elu 10 aastat. Nüüd 16.juunil oleks ta saanud kümne aastaseks.
Mäletan kui väga ma ootasin Soomest Nattaset kennelist seda mustade silmaklappidega kutsikat. Tänu Batmanile sain ma tuttavaks paljude toredate inimestega. Tänu Batmanile reisisime me üle terve Euroopa, võitsime mitmel korral erinevais paigus setterite erinäitusi.
Batman oli suur koer: just hingelt suur! Koduses koerakarjas austasid ja aktsepteerisid teda kõik ülejäänud penid - kui Batman ei tahtnud mürada ja nalja visata, siis ei söendanud ka kõige üleannetum jõmpsikas teda kiusata.

Batmani kohta võiks öelda, et oma headel aegadel oli ta Euroopas üks võidukamaid isaseid Inglise setteri tõugu koeri.

Mõtlesin just, et trimmin Batmani näitusesoengusse ja teen temast kümnenda sünnipäeva puhul mõne ilusa foto.
Hiljaks jäin!

Seaset Silver Snowwhite "Roxy" has been successful again in faraway Salzburg, Austria, where Setter Derby dogshow was held on the 22-nd of May with the entry of 21 English Setters.
The judge was Mrs. Dee Milligan-Bott from England.
And Roxy won the title of best bitch at that show!
My warmest congratulations to Nicole and Hans!
Way to go, little Roxanne!

Sometimes there is a need to travel to a faraway country in order to take part in a dogshow with the competent judge for our English setter breed.
So, we travelled 1600 kilometers to Hungary, Szilvasvarad and attended the Hungarian Setter Club show.
The show was held in a lovely atmosphere with the entry of 19 English setters. The judge for us was Mrs. Nikki Ruigrok (Ireland).
This time our Grace looked like an English setter from the point of view of the judge: she got a lovely description and was given "excellent" 1/2 in the intermediate class with the Hungarian CAC.
Although Grace was not placed in the best bitch competition, our day was not spoilt, because Grace's sister Roxy took the junior class winner title and later was given the BIS2 junior award.
Oh yes, we were happy of Roxy's result - she really looked nice and deserved her winning!
At Sunday there was another show with another judge: Mrs. Susan Stone-Amport (from Switzerland).
This judge was a little bit more critical about the breed and although giving Grace the first place in the intermediate class (2 participants), we got "very good". But Roxy shined again! - she was the junior class winner again!
It was really a lovely weekend full of nice English setters.
My congratulations go to Nicole and Hans for the results of Open Your Heart of Slow Fox "Duke" and Roxy!
And we had a lovely Saturday evening with Estonian barbeque meat and beer together with Nicole and Hans. It was so nice to chat with you!

Our journey to Hungary could have been too easy for us if we had not taken some challenge:
We had promised to take a tiny puppy (Mr. Masterpiece "Macho" of Slow Fox x Bournefield Destiny "Angel") from Slow Fox kennel to bring to live in Finland, but at the spot it came out that we will take 2 puppies - one to Warsaw and the other, as planned, to Finland. So, we started the journey back home with two tiny puppies and Grace on board of our motorhome. At first I was a little bit afraid how can we handle these two puppies, but actually it all went very smoothly indeed. The male puppy went to live near Warsaw to Joanna & Darek's place. We were very pleased that we could stay at Joanna & Darek's home for this Monday night. At early Tuesday morning we started from Warsaw, covered all more than 1000 kilometers and we were back home at two o'clock at night.
Little Gucci (as I called our new tiny friend) coped very well, she was so brave to tolerate all the way - from Budapest to Warsaw and then to Estonia in the motorhome.
But of course when we got home, little Gucci played and ran around almost all the night until the morning - she had so much energy in reserve to spend.
Then at Wednesday it was a time to say good-bye to Gucci: she went to Finland to meet her owner Tuula (kennel Riekonhovin). Gucci will now be called Vappu.
My heart is a little bit broken, because Vappu is such a beautiful girl with a lot of correct temperament and attitude!
We will certainly follow your development, little lady!
And good luck to Tuula with this girl!

Unfortunately there are only so few photos: somehow didn't feel the inspiration to make them.
We probably have to go to Szilvasvarad again for the next time - to catch the photos about these beautiful surroundings at the Bükk mountains.

A morning spent in Rakvere at the National Dogshow.
The judge meant for us was supposed to be Juha Kares from Finland, but as this judge did not show up, we had Ligita Zake from Latvia.
Our bad luck from the dogshows continues, so our tiny Grace came out of the showring with the shame on you "good" remark.
According to this judge our Grace was too small for an English setter bitch, too out of proportions, too weak, and should have the head more elegant - besides, some more negative things added in the description.
When thinking of the fact, that we will start our journey to Hungary at the next week to show our Grace there among other English setters in a really tense competition, then this "good" remark (a second "good" in a row already) does not encourage me much to show my English setters at any shows in the future anymore.
At first I thought I will postpone this trip to Hungary, but probably those people are right who tell, that I should show Grace to some specialist to make the really final decision about, if it is worth going to the dogshows with her or not.
Of course it is very sad and pity that we do not have any dogshows here in Estonia anymore, where to show the setter-breeds to the specialists.
Therefore we have to make such a long journeys abroad to get the more accurate opinions about our English type English setters.

As the day itself was sunny and fine, our Grace was trimmed and washed, we tried to make some fresh photos of her.
It really is a long time since I made some photos of any of my dogs.

A weekend spent in Riga, Latvia.
There were 14 English setters entered to the International "Latvian Winner 2011" dogshow at the Skonto-hall today.
The judge for all setters was Ms. Alenka Pokorn (Slovenia).
This time our little lady Grace managed to get "excellent" in junior class winning one other junior bitch and getting the "Latvian Junior Winner 2011" title.
And finally we were placed 4-th in best bitch competition among other English Setters representing the American breeding-lines.
What a lovely sunny day it was in Riga!
And... just maybe... the Lucky-Man has not totally turned his back to us!

National Dogshow in Tallinn with the judge Gert Christensen (Denmark).
This time Grace received "very good" being the only representative of the English Setter breed.

Some of my good friends have been asking about, what were Grace's results at the Panevezhis Nat.show yesterday in Lithuania.
Here is the information:
We started towards Panevezhis at Saturday, stayed at the small and lovely (but I shouldn't say quiet) hotel "Smiltynes Sodyba".
At Sunday morning we found ourselves in a sports hall, which had probably been lastly renovated during the Brezhnev-time.
So the show began!
There were hundreds and hundreds of dog-lovers on one small basketball ground. Somehow we managed to crawl to the showring and after some minutes we crawled out of the showring. The judge Boguslawa Polanczyk from Poland gave Grace "excellent" with JunCC. The CH-class male was the BOB-winner.
And after that we started our journey home again.
The description of Grace is in Russian language and I do not understand the language written in abbreviations of this Russian. But only one sentence is clear: "ne hvatajet muskulatury" - (translation): "is lacking muscles."
So, what else to do, than lets go to the fitness studio - both of us!
On our way back we stopped at the seaside in Latvia near Salacgriva.
It was a lovely view to the sea. The forces of nature have pushed a lot of ice to the shore forming the hills of about many metres high. Indeed a spectacular view! Here is the example of our small Grace compared to the big hill of ice:

We have been not so very lucky at the dogshows lately.
Yesterday we were at the Int.dogshow in Tallinn with the entry of 10 English setters and the judge from Austria: Karl Reisinger.
The judge valued our Grace with the "satisfactory" remark.
This really is the very first time that I have got "satisfactory" with any of my dogs.
Of course it is very-very difficult to understand this kind of attitude towards the English type of the English setters from this Austrian judge.
Besides, I learned a bitter lesson from all of this dogshow-business: not every dog should be with a champion-title by all possible means - so probably Grace won't be obtaining any Estonian Junior Champion title.
Does this make her more unvaluable?!

We paid a short visit to Tartu to take part in the local national dogshow with the entry of 5 representatives from the English setter breed.
The judge was from Sweden: Nina Karlsdotter.
We did not expect so very much from this show, but of course we did not expect to get the evaluation of "very good" either.
This time our Grace had everything in a very good condition: movement, angulations, head, neck, topline, coat - very good.
Maybe we can make it better at the next time - let us hope so!
This is only a show, a lottery, where the luckiest ones will win.
It is not so very easy to loose, especially when it is about the competition of preferring the different types.
