The day of the Puppy and Veteran Christmas Show (not official) in Tallinn. We had Shanty entered, but due to the circumstances I had to skip this show, and therefore I am feeling a bit sad.
Instead of going to this dogshow, I decided to write here as it is Christmas time and the year will be ending soon, it seems to be the time to make conclusions.
The most important is, that we have now Shanty here filling my life with joy, love and happiness. I really am very thankful to Penny & Gordon Williams (Bournehouse kennel) for all the trust throughout several years to have those beautiful breeding lines of Bournehouse living here at our home.
Our sweet orange dog Shanty is really THE ENGLISH SETTER, the true character which I adore most in this breed.

I also received wonderful news from Nicole in Austria, that Seaset Silver Snowwhite "Roxy" has been mated to "Mr. Masterpiece "Macho" of Slow Fox and that Roxy is in whelp and that the puppies will be born in the middle of January 2014. All the serious enquiries for possible puppies are very welcome!

From this point it is good to leave the year 2013 behind and start a new one - who knows what the next year will bring, but let us hope it will be filled with fun, joy and excitement!

Back from the weekend spent in Helsinki.
We were taking part in the most important and significant dogshows of the year in Finland: at Saturday there was Nordic Winner 2013 title show and at Sunday Finnish Winner 2013 title dogshow.
We presented Grace and Shanty at both days very successfully:
Saturday, 14-th of December.
judge: Rune Fagerström, Finland.
entry: 31 English setters.
Grace - CH class "excellent" 2/4 CC ;
Shanty - junior class "excellent" 1, CC, res-CAC, NordJW 2013.

Sunday, 15-th of December.
judge: Heather Cox, Ireland.
entry: 32 English setters.
Grace - CH class "excellent" 2/6 CC , Best Bitch 3 ;
Shanty - junior class "excellent" 1, CC, FINJW 2013.
There was an accident with the ferry of the shipping company just before our trip and the timetable was all cancelled because of that.
So, there were some moments when it was not clear if we can travel at all, because we had to change the ferry.
But all is well that ends well! We had a lovely time in Helsinki!

The weekend in Riga with dogs.
At Saturday there was the International Dogshow "Baltic Winner 2013" with the entry of 23 English setters and the judge from Estonia: Marko Lepasaar.
We had Grace entered to the CH-class and as Shanty turned 9 months old three days ago, I had to enter him to the junior class for the first time.
As Marko Lepasaar is totally a freshman judging our breed, we did not know what to expect. And it came out like a very bad dream: both of my dogs received very critical descriptions and "very good" remarks. The judge did not write anything positive to their descriptions and it really is very pity that our dogs looked very ugly for this judge.
Here is Shanty's description at Saturday seen by Marko Lepasaar: "Correct size. Enough strong bones. Should have more correct bite. Too much lips and too much skin on neck. Enough long neck. Topline still developing. Too straight in front. Needs more hind angulation. Should have more correct front legs movement. Nice temperament."

At Sunday there was another opportunity, but there was another new judge Julia Pataki (Hungary) invited to look over all the setter breeds at the Setter Special Show of the Latvian Gundogs Society. The entry was even bigger: 27.
Although I already promised that I will not go to the dog shows never ever again if both of my dogs get "very good" this time too, it really was a nice surprise to receive lovely descriptions with "excellent" remarks.
Shanty's description in junior class at Sunday: "Very nice elegant junior male. Very nice head and expression. Dark eyes. Elegant and clean neck. Very good topline and set of tail. Excellent angulations front and behind. Very nice toes. Moves well."
The results from Sunday:
Shanty - junior class "excellent" 1/2, junCAC, Best male 3;
Grace - open class "excellent" 2/3, CC, Best bitch 4 .

Unfortunately we did not stay until the finals of the show.

Now we are back from the journey to Hungary, where we took part in double ( 2 x CACIB) International Dogshow in Komarom.
This time we had two nice travel companions: Luca (Swannery Unforgettable) and Jaana (Nattaset kennel).
Statistics of shows:
19.10.2013 - entry of English setters - 13. Judge: Sandor Szabo (Hungary) ;
20.10.2013 - entry of English setters - 10. Judge: Laszlo Erdös (Hungary).

Our Grace competed in Champion class winning CAC and CACIB at both days. Although she was not put to be the best bitch at both days, we had the good luck with finishing the Hungarian Champion title ( H CH) after those two competitions.
So now I am lucky to have the first ever Hungarian Champion in my household :) :).

Spending a nice warm and sunny day at the Tallinn Song Festival Ground taking part in the National Dogshow for all breeds.
The English setter entry was 6 and the judge for us Mr. Tamas Jakkel (Hungary).
I only entered Shanty for the show practice.
So, Shanty behaved well while handled by Anne-Stiina receiving "Very promising" with "Promotion Prize" and being BOBpuppy.
I am very pleased that Shanty has truly a very outgoing temperament correct for the English setter breed. He has the self-confidence at totally new situations and meeting the people he has not seen before.
Now we will take a little break from the dog shows and will be back in October in Hungary with our Grace. And afterwards, in November, with Shanty, Grace and probably Annie too in Latvia, where our big boy Shanty will be competing in junior class already.

Grace got the confirmation for Lithuanian champion title - a beautiful rosette with the diploma.

The weekend spent in Tallinn at the double CACIB dogshows.
English setter entry was 9 at both days.
At Saturday the judge was Mrs. Diane Stewart-Ritchie from Ireland. Our Shanty got a nice description with BOB puppy title and "Promotion Prize", while Grace competed in the Champion class receiving excellent 1, BB2, res-CACIB.
At Sunday the judge was from Portugal: Vitor Veiga. This day the judgement in general was very weird indeed. Little Shanty got BOB puppy again with "Promotion Prize", but although Grace got a nice description with excellent remarks, she was placed 4-th at best Bitch competition after some English setters from totally different outlook.
So, we had two totally different days with two totally different opinions of our breed-type.
Grace and Shanty were handled by Anne-Stiina.

We started our journey already early morning at passed Thursday, drove all the day, and in the evening were were in Druskininkai, Lithuania, to take part in the dog show weekend there.
Grace needed just 1 Lithuanian CAC to fulfill the needs of becoming the Champion of all Baltic countries, so we had our hopes on for succeeding at this aim.
It is always so very hot in Lithuania at this time of the year and this weekend was not an exeption. But luckily we had our motorhome to get the shelter out of the hot sunshine at the Druskininkai aerodrome where the show was held.
At the first day, Friday, 02.08., the judge was from Cyprus, Mr. Neofytou Erodothos. Sorry to say it out loud, but I hadn't even the slightest idea whether this judge does know anything about our breed and what are his priorities concerning the judgement. Oh, and he made his decision so very quickly indeed: we run into the showring and run out again.
Luckily for us the judge's decision about Grace was: CH class excellent 1, CAC, res-CACIB, best bitch 2/2. (The entry at both days was 6 English setters).
So, the next day with the all-rounder judge Blaz Kavcic (Slovenia) was already more easy, because there was no pressure as our sweet girl already got the CAC which she needed.
Repeatedly again Grace was excellent 1 in CH class, CAC, res-CACIB, best bitch 2/2 after the American type of the breed.
We had entered Grace also for the third day Hunting Dog Speciality Show (CAC-rights), but instead of spending one more day at Druskininkai, we decided to drive to the seaside.
It was somehow very-very refreshing to spend the evening at the sea at "Captain's Village": making a long walk along the sandy beach with Grace, watching the sunset and having barbeque.
And really the water in the sea was enough warm for enjoying the swim there!

Our Grace can now probably go to the well earned vacation, as I can apply for LT & LV & EST & BALT CH titles for her. This is sure that from now on Grace will be only shown to the judges, who really have the clue about the English setter breed.

We were in Latvia, Jaunmarupe, to participate at the Hunting Dogs Show with Grace and Shanty.
I felt quite excited as our baby Shanty made his debut at the showring and besides, it was his first journey with our motor-home.
Shanty seems to have the real showman character not bothering about anything, besides he is such a good companion while travelling long distances by car.
So, the entry of English setters was 11 and the judge was from Holland: Dick Rutten.
As we have showed our Grace successfully to that judge before, I was quite certain that he likes the breed-type I am having - but this time it was totally different. According to the description Grace was not so much of the show quality. Her tail was too short, ribcase too round, muzzle also too short and eyes too wide open.
Of course with that description Grace did not get more than "very good" being presented in the Champion class for the first time, she was only placed 3/3.
Shanty had more of the luck: he got quite a positive description with "Promotion Prize" (PP). And was later at the Baby Best In Show placed to honorary 2-nd place (the last place).
Although I was quite surprised about the judgement style of this judge and although Grace did not get the CAC for fulfilling the needs to become Latvian Champion, we had a lovely (extremely warm) day in Jaunmarupe.
The next shows will be already during the next weekend for Grace.
Shanty will be shown already in older puppy-class after some weeks in Tallinn .

It was quite a challenge to get those dogs to sit still - the only one who just wanted to pose was Happy, but of course it is understandable, as he is now 10 years old and has already the experience in being a model.

So, I am back from the journey to England as a result of which, a very handsome 4-months old orange belton Shanty is now a full time resident in our household.
The journey was actually very nice - only, it was so cold in central Europe that the warm clothes were the must and at some evening I even longed for my mittens, which I certainly had left home.
Shanty will be having his own web page as soon as I manage to make it.
He is such a lovely fellow: very naughty, brave and nice.
Hopefully he will become the future show dog, meanwhile we will be observing his growing process.
I am very-very thankful to Mrs. Penny Williams and Mr. Gordon Williams for letting me have Shanty. It really is a great honour to have the progeny from the Bournehouse breeding lines living here in our house again.

At this moment we cannot stay at home for a long time.
Tomorrow morning we will start a journey towards England.
I won't tell much about it now - only that at Saturday, 01-st of June, I have an appointment settled and will meet someone very smart and special.

We spent a sunny weekend in Finland being invited to take part in the Nattaset kennel Invitation Show (not official).
Besides, we were also invited to the jubilee birthday party of Jaana, owner of Nattaset kennel.
My dear friend Jaana was the first person introducing me the English setter breed more thouroughly (unbelievably it was already) more than 10 years ago. Throughout these years I have learnt so much from her experience in this breed. Together we have travelled along the continent and the most important is, that I had my lovely boy Batman, who will always be remembered in our family.

So, it was a pleasure and joy to participate at the events of this weekend in a lovely and friendly atmosphere.

The Nattaset Invitation Show was held at Saturday with the judge invited from UK: Mrs. Margaret Attwood (kennel Swannery).
Grace competed in open class receiving a nice result of excellent 1/2, best bitch 3.
The Best of Breed of the show was lovely orange belton male Nattaset Have a Look "Ossi" - congratulations to the owners of this dog - Eija and Lasse!

I am back home from the trip to Budapest, Hungary, where we together with Marika and the Hungarian viszla Kaspar(kennel Sign of Constancy) spent a lovely week taking part in several dog shows amongst which the "World Winner 2013" title International Dogshow was the most important.
Our Grace participated in 2 shows:
15-th of May 2013, English setter entry was 14, judge: Laszlo Erdös (Hungary).
Grace's result: open class excellent 1, CAC, res-CACIB.
On the 18-th of May at the "World Winner" show there were 64 English setters entered by the judge Moray Armstrong from UK.
Grace was competing in the strong open class and received the 3-rd place with "excellent" out of 7 entries in the class.
Thank you goes to Marika for the lovely time we had together during the trip - lot of laughter, good food and the most important thing to mention is, that we did swim in the Balaton Lake! :)
I also have few photos which I will put up as soon as I manage.

Today I received the official confirmation from FCI that our Grace is now International Show Champion!
She certainly deserves this title and now can be proudly presented in the Champion class.

We made a quick trip to Vienna, Austria, together with our Grace.
Although it was so cold, snowy and frosty during the whole journey, I enjoyed the Clubshow of the Österreichische Setter Club very much.
The English Setter entry was 21. The judge was Mrs. Penny Williams (UK).
Our Grace competed in the strong open class together with four other competitors - and she won this class.
Besides, she was later Best Bitch with CAC.
And last but not least - our Grace got such a nice description, from which I will quote only one sentence: "Super mover." - that's what Grace is!
It was also so lovely to meet Nicole and Hans with all their English setters, especially Roxy, who also competed in the open class and became 2-nd with res-CAC and the Clubsieger title.

Our sweetheart Annie will be turning already 7 years old this coming April - how quickly the time flies indeed.
Better late than never, now I have managed to make the CH-title applications to be sent to the Estonian Kennel Union for confirmation.
So, our beautiful Annie has now also the titles of EST V CH and BALT CH before her name!
It is so good that the Estonian Kennel Union has changed the rules so, that it is possible to get the Estonian champion title without the field-trial test.
