SETTERI UUDISEID 2016/NEWS 2016
- 12.12.2016
This year will be ending soon and as this "Finnish Winner 2016" show was the last one for this year, I would like to end the diary of 2016 here.
This year has been so very difficult for me as I lost two very dear friends of mine: Happy and Annie.
I have just no words how I miss those two lovely show dogs - but I cannot turn back the time and any of us will be immortal.
The only thing is to wish, that there probably will be better times ahead...

We have always tried to take part in the annual "Finnish Winner" Dogshows in the middle of December every year.
As the judge for this year seemed to be quite tempting, Rachel Shaw-Rainey (Ireland), we decided to visit the beautiful Helsinki before Christmas-time for this year also.
But of course the years are not brothers, no dogshow is alike, and this year we failed entirely.
For some reason the judge did like neither of my dogs: Shanty receiving "excellent 2/3 in CH class and Vicky receiving "very good" in open class.
Of course these are not bad remarks in general and every dog may get "very good" at some point at its life, this is not the issue here. But after reading the descriptions what other English setters got at that show, and when reading what Shanty & Vicky got, I am very embarrassed about my dogs: instead of "nice", "excellent", "lovely" "super" my dogs were "average", "good", "moderate". That is why I am not feeling good about it!
Although the beauty is in the eyes of the viewer, there still exists the breed standard and the judgement needs to be held accordingly. The more I am attending the dogshows, the more I feel that "the show must go on!"

Back from the trip to Sweden, Stockholm, where the "Swedish Winner 2016" International Dogshow was held.
This time we had only Vicky with us presented in the open class already.
Of course she is not ready for showing among grown-up and fully matured dogs, so our result was again quite an average:
excl.1, CC. - and that was all. The judge John Thirwell (UK) did not like Vicky more to give her a better result.
This coming weekend will be spent in Helsinki to take part in "Finnish Winner 2016" show - so lets see what happens there...

We travelled to Riga, Latvia together with Jaana (kennel Nattaset) and the English setters: Chiara, Pulla and Vicky to take part in the annual Latvian Setter Special Show.
The entry of English setters was 10.
The judge for all setter breeds was Mrs. Diane Stewart-Richie (UK).
Besides that Chiara (Nattaset Droppo Bella) won all the setters at the show being BIS1, and Pulla (Nattaset Silirimpsis) won all the junior setters of the show being BIS1 junior, our little Vicky presented in intermediate class for the last time received excl.1, CC, Best bitch 4.
Although it was the very last place that Vicky received in this competition, we had a great time there!
Vicky needs more development at the moment and she needs more coat - so it was not much that we expected anyway.
I hope we will do better next tme.
There was even one photo made of us:
Thank you for the photo: Natalija Jentkiene.

It has been snowing a lot here. Soon we all will be living under the snow (which is a joke of course).

Quick trip to Tartu to the International Dogshow that was held there.
The entry of English setters was 9 and the judge was Tony Rainey from Ireland.
Our two show dogs did not receive anything special, but did well again:
Shanty presented in CH class was awarded excl.1/2, CC, Best male 2, res-CACIB.
Vicky presented in intermediate class: excl.1, CC, Best bitch 2, res-CACIB.

Today there was a dog show in Rakvere. English setter entry was 3 and the judge Mrs. Laura Cox (Ireland).
The day was much better than the previous show day in September.
Shanty presented in CH class was awarded excl.1, CC, Best male 1, BOB, BIG3.
Vicky presented in intermediate class: excl.1, CC, Best bitch 1, BOS.

After a short break we tried how it feels to be at the dog show again.
And it was a "disaster", as for some unknown reason Shanty got the remark of "Good" and Vicky got the remark of "Very good" being the only representatives of our breed.
The judge was Berry Beare from Ireland.

A day spent in Adazhi, Latvia where the annual Latvian Hunting Dog Club Show was held.
English setter entry was 14 and the judge was Mr. Sigurd Wilberg ( from Norway / residing in UK).
Shanty seems to have no luck in Latvia. Still missing 1 x CAC to become Latvian Champion, he was presented in champion class getting only "very good" this time.
Vicky had more of the luck being presented in intermediate class she got "excellent" 1, CC, BB1, BOS, title of "Club Winner 2016".
A fly in the ointment for us was, that the ring secretary forgot to give Vicky CAC-card for Latvian championship. And as we were not checking the documents beside the show ring and noticed it only later here at home, there probably is no possibility to restore the documents and little Vicky will not have CAC from this show, which she will need 3 in total to become Latvian Champion. Such a bad thing to happen indeed! The next time I have to take more control and check all documents more accurately.
The show itself was a very peculiar one and not festive at all. Noone took photos and even the BOB/BOS trophies were given outside the show ring not making it as a festive occasion - very strange!

Very sad day!
After a longtime struggle with illness, we lost the battle and had to say good-bye to Annie.
Now I just need a very strong motivation to go on with this hobby of mine - at the moment there is no motivation at all.
The house and the yard seems so quiet with 3 dogs only. And the dogs are so silent - I wonder what they feel about it.
Anyway, life just goes on and on and on.

We took part in the annual Estonian Setter Club Special Show for all setter breeds held near Aruküla, Estonia.
This year the judge was invited from Belgium: Mrs. Catherine Pil.
Our two show dogs Shanty and Vicky behaved well and received also lovely results:
Shanty presented in open class: excl.1/4, CC, Best male 1, BOS.
Vicky presented in intermediate class: excl.1, CC, Best bitch 3.
It was a lovely sunny day!
Many thanks go to Anne-Stiina - what would I do without your help in handling the dogs!
My few photos are here:
As I did not want to disturb Vicky and Anne-Stiina in the show ring during their performance, I could not make any photos of Vicky there - so the photos of Vicky are made in our garden later.

Some beautiful moments from the spring day at the beach where we usually swim in summer:

Our orange boy Shanty got the C.I.E. (International Show Champion) title confirmed.
He is only 3 years old now and I keep on wondering what else to achieve with this beautiful boy?! - a new serious incentive is very much required here...

How the time flies indeed!
It is springtime again!
And Bournehouse White Witch "Annie" celebrates her 10-th birthday!
- 07.04.2016
After a long wait we finally got the HD/ED results of Vicky.
Her result is A/B and 0/0 - so, our girl is healthy on hips and everything is well with that.

It was a very sad day today.
We had to say a final good-bye to our darling Happy.
Happy (Iron Man of Slow Fox) was a dog of dreams.
Together we travelled through the whole Europe, attended tens and tens of shows.
Together we gained many wins, among which he was awarded Best In Show II place winner in 2005 at Finnish Clubshow for all setter breeds, Best In Show I place winner in 2007 and Best in Show IV place winner in 2008 at Estonian Setter Club Special Shows.
These good old times will never come back again!
But the memory of our sweetheart Happy (as he deserved his name being always happy-puppy) will stay in our hearts and thoughts forever.
He lived a long life, but never reached 13 years (he would have been 13 years on the 22-nd of June in 2016).
Good-bye, Happy! - let the photo speak this time...
